Desktop workbench
What the sidebar, conversation, tasks and evolution are each for; the workspace on the right has its own guide.
Layout
- Sidebar: new session (
⇧⌘O), search (⌘K), a task summary across projects, and projects grouped by folder with their sessions. - Top tabs: Chat, Files, Evolution.
- Top right: the “project working in background” status, the notification bell (unread only, with “mark all read”) and the workspace toggle.
- Composer: permission menu, model and reasoning level; context usage and cache hit rate underneath.
Conversation
A conversation can contain:
- Delivered this turn: each file’s net change for the turn (computed by the host), generated documents, image thumbnails and previews, with “Roll back this turn” beside them.
- Proactive updates: new findings from the background, marked as proactive and whether a desktop notification was sent.
- Scheduled deliveries: results of scheduled tasks, such as a daily checkpoint, labelled “Scheduled task ‘name’”.
- While you were away: progress grouped by topic when you return; minor items go to the inbox.
- Decision cards: background work or merge conflicts that need your call, above the composer, each asked once; answering one shows the next.
- Generated images: images and file links in answers show in the conversation and open in a side preview.
- Subagent results: what a subagent concluded when it finished, did not finish or was cancelled; see Subagents.
/ and + in the composer share one command set: files, goals, plan, feedback, compaction, permissions, model and export. Enter sends, Shift Enter adds a line.
Tasks
The task page gathers background work, results to verify and scheduled tasks across projects, counted as in progress, needs attention, scheduled and paused. Each one can be paused, resumed, stopped or steered. Stuck plan items can be marked done or dropped, failed records answered in place, and Clear… clears a project’s unfinished items at once.
Evolution
The evolution page is a gene tree; nodes show active, on-trial and retired by their dot. Open a node to see what it changed, why (quoting what you said), how many times it was put into a turn, how many times it was followed and what it caught. The actions are “Right / Not right / Stop using”, and guards and skill rules may also offer “Deep check”. The generation list and “Evolution observations” (how much each rule is used, where corrections went, prompt growth, the latest comparison and so on) live in a collapsed “Detailed records”. Judgment records are under “Judgment” and “System evolution” in settings.
“What Rna learned” is a card on the project overview: whether learning is running, the number of lessons, agenda items and open commitments, and the most used lessons, with a link to the profile on the evolution page. Lessons are edited or revoked in the evolution page’s Profile branch. When a commitment is overdue, a card above the composer asks whether to carry on.
The workspace on the right
To the right of the conversation is a workspace you arrange: background tasks, files, evolution, workspace changes, terminal, browser, preview, side chat and review all open as panels you can split, drag and save as layouts. See Workspace and panels.
Files
Files shows the real folder tree: view source, Markdown and spreadsheets, and download; changed files are marked and can be filtered. Select an HTML file to start a static preview beside it.
Permissions and safety
Project permissions, background boundaries, credential storage, and what Rna cannot guarantee yet.
Workspace and panels
To the right of the conversation is a workspace you arrange yourself: background tasks, files, evolution, workspace changes, terminal, browser and preview all open as panels.
